What is the Thélá:ylexw Awtxw Foundation?

Thélá:ylexw Awtxw Foundation—The House of Life Givers—is a non-profit organization founded by Stó:lō womxn, for Stó:lō womxn. Based in BC’s Fraser Valley, we create space for Stó:lō womxn to gather, connect with their culture, share knowledge with one another, and advocate for positive social change.

What does Thélá:ylexw Awtxw mean?

Thélá:ylexw Awtxw is a Halq̓eméylem phrase meaning “House of Life Givers.” The name was gifted to us by language speakers Ethel Gardner and Wendy Ritchie, and it reflects the role that Stó:lō womxn have always held—as the givers and sustainers of life, the weavers of our social fabric, and the strength of our families and communities.

What is the Stó:lō Womxn Member Portal?

The Stó:lō Womxn Member Portal is our own online community space and the first of its kind for Stó:lō womxn. It is a private, members-only platform where Stó:lō womxn can connect, RSVP to events, listen to the “Meet Me at the Mic” podcast, join community groups, and take their place in the circle, wherever they are.

How do I become a member?

Becoming a member is simple and membership-free. On our website, click “Become a Member,” and create your profile on the Stó:lō Womxn Member Portal. Once your account is approved, you will have access to community groups, events, the podcast, and everything the portal has to offer.

Who can join the Stó:lō Womxn Member Portal?

The Member Portal was built for Stó:lō womxn. Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, and aunties. You all belong here.

I live far from the Fraser Valley. Can I still be part of the community?

Of course! This is exactly why the Member Portal exists. Whether you are close to home or far from Stó:lō territory, this space keeps you connected to your people, your culture, and your circle. Distance should never stand between a Stó:lō womxn and her community.

What kind of events does Thélá:ylexw Awtxw Foundation host?

We host many different events designed to bring Stó:lō womxn together, from land-based gatherings like hikes and on-the-land series, to cultural workshops, community circles, and wellness events. Every gathering is centred on connection, culture, and the wellbeing of Stó:lō womxn.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

All upcoming events are listed in the Member Portal and on our website at stolowomen.com/events. Once you become a member, you can RSVP directly through the portal and receive automated reminders as each event gets closer.

What is Meet Me at the Mic?

“Meet Me at the Mic: Conversations with Carrielynn” is a monthly podcast hosted by Carrielynn Victor (xemontalot). Each episode sits down with a Stó:lō womxn to share life experiences, family histories, cultural knowledge, and matriarchal teachings. It’s a space where Stó:lō stories are heard and honoured, and through the Member Portal, you can RSVP for new episodes and talk about them with the community.
